BUILD IT RIGHT!
Before forming M.S. Hammett Construction in the fall of
2014, Steve was a project manager for one of Western North
Carolina's premier luxury custom home builders. He spent
over 11 years building and managing high-end residential
projects ranging from $800K to $4M. When it comes to fine
custom home building, there is very little that he hasn't been
exposed to. His passion for construction started at a very
young age when he would tour construction projects with
his father who was also a custom home builder in South
Carolina. Steve graduated with honors earning a Bachelor's
degree in Business from Limestone College while working
as a superintendent for his fathers building company.
Shortly after graduating, he obtained his South Carolina
Residential Builder's License and started to pursue a career
in the construction industry. Steve left his father's business
in 2004 to work for another local builder based out of
Greenville, South Carolina. Steve attributes his ability to
effectively schedule his construction project from the time
that he spent in Greenville when he managed 40+ projects
at a time. Originally from Spartanburg, South Carolina,
Steve relocated to Tryon, North Carolina in the fall of 2007 after getting a little taste of the mountain lifestyle. During his ten year tenure with Morgan-Keefe Builders, Steve developed a deep respect for the mountains of Western North Carolina. He’s completed projects in developments such as Bright's Creek, Champion Hills, the Cliffs at Walnut Cove, Wade Hampton Golf Club, and Balsam Mountain Preserve. He completed his first "tiny home" in the spring of 2017. He holds General Contracting licenses in both North Carolina and South Carolina and is focusing on new construction, additions, and remodels. He has worked closely with some of the areas most well respected architects and he is always eager to begin a new project that will allow him to integrate a gorgeous new timber frame home, charming, character-filled cottage, or a contemporary masterpiece with a natural world around it. Steve's building philosophy of "Build it Right" is applied to every project that he is involved with no matter the size or cost.
Steve now resides in Hendersonville, North Carolina with his 8 year old daughter Loie and their German Shorthair Pointer, Ellie. When he's not busy on a jobsite, you might find him chasing the local trout in some of WNC's most beautiful waters or playing golf but you can bet that he won't stray too far away from his sweet little girl, Loie.
